Getting Started
I don't have an account yet: To begin transcribing, you will need to fill out the following form and then create an account in Scripto:
- Fill out the form below using the same e-mail address that you will use to sign up for transcribing the diaries.
- Upon completion, this form will bring you to the create an account page in Scripto.
- Choose a user name and password. Enter the same accessible email address that you used for the form below.
- Once you create the account, you should see a green notification that you have successfully created the account.
- Navigate to the "Projects" link in the upper right navigation and click on Jane Bigelow Diaries.
- Choose any diary and any page that hasn't been marked as complete and begin!
It's important to learn and follow the project guidelines for transcribing before beginning a transcription project.

From the public site, navigate to the project, select an item, select an image, then click "Transcribe" under the image. Then, enter a transcription of the page in the space provided.
Please save your progress often.
Be sure to hit the "save" button often, in the middle of working on an entry before marking as complete. This is especially important for long entries that take over twenty minutes to work on. If the transcribe window has been open for thirty minutes to an hour without hitting the save button, you may receive a CSRF error in the browser and you will loose your progress. Be sure to save often so you don't loose your work!
If you believe you have fully transcribed the page as accurately as possible, and it is ready for review, you can click the "mark as complete" button after you have saved.
In-progress transcriptions can be saved and completed later. A Union College staff member will review completed transcriptions before they are approved.
